Kerrang Front Cover Analysis

The masthead is in a smashed font. It shows the magazine is focused on rock and metal music. The target audience is people who are older teenagers to people in their early twenties. And it is also appealing to people who listen to rock and heavy metal music. The skyline is talking about a particular band, which tries to make the audience buy it. Also the colours used are black, white and gold which stands out and attracts the reader to the magazine. The pull quote “I WON’T BACK DOWN!” attracts the audience and tries to convince them to buy it, because it fits in with the image by trying to show that he is tough and makes the audience want to read the interview. The main image links to the pull quote by trying to show the audience that he is strong and hard. Also the colours and jewellery that he is wearing are trying to back up that he is strong by wearing black clothes and skull rings. The left third is filled with information about the freebies that come with buying the magazine. Also it is filled with images of different bands, as this is trying to draw the target audience into buying the magazine with the promise of posters inside. The lead article is all in uppercase bold, to stand out and attract the audience into looking at the magazine. The colours are in your face, and are contrasting, the gold and white against black really tries to catch the audiences eye. Also the lead article talks about “Ian Watkins: From Straight-Edge to over the Edge!” adds to the pull quote and the main image that he is tough and dangerous. Also the cover lines try to make the target audience buy it with the promise of more bands inside.
